As a brand, Zuku aims to give customers the greatest value for their money without compromising service quality. The Zuku brand currently has three commercial products namely:
ZUKU TRIPLE PLAY
The triple play platform is the foundation of the group’s home entertainment strategy. Construction began in 2009 and the network is currently deployed in Nairobi with construction to be extended to the other major cities in East Africa, the company aims to cover all major urban centres with triple play infrastructure. Using a combination of HFC and GPON technologies the company has launched the first real triple play offering in sub Saharan Africa. Residential speeds are currently up to 8 Mb and will be rising to 20 Mb per subscriber in the near future. The inclusion of high quality voice services with free unlimited local on-net phone calls is another first on the continent.
Wananchi’s direct-to-home (DTH) satellite PayTV offering, Zuku TV, offers quality TV service of over 60 channels at an affordable price. Zuku TV has successfully launched in Kenya and Uganda and will be rolling out aggressively to Tanzania, Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, Malawi and Zambia in the coming months.
WANANCHI PROGRAMMING GROUP
The programming group was established to create compelling content fort the group’s Pay TV operations. The company’s operations are managed from Kenya where all the buying, scheduling and packaging of all the channels for Zuku. They have a number of firsts to their name already including amongst other things creating the first ever Documentary Channel to be produced in Africa. The Programming Group is responsible for:
The Programming Group is committed to working closely with local producers and directors to develop the East African Media Industry and grow the amount of high quality local content that is shown on Zuku channels. In addition they have started an initiative to represent local content at global content marketplaces as a means to further enhance revenues to local productions.
